Woman yelling 'Allahu akbar' slashes two with blade in France

Woman shouting 'Allahu akbar' attacks 2 with box cutter at supermarket in France

Two people were injured by a woman in a French supermarket shouting "allahu akbar", according to local media reports.

An unidentified woman yelled "Allahu Akbar!" and then stabbed two people with a box cutter late Sunday morning at a French Riviera supermarket in the town of La-Seyne-Sur-Mer, outside Toulon.

The attacker has now been detained, and while Toulon prosecutor Bernard Marchal has not revealed the full details of the incident it appears to bear some hallwarks of a radical Islamic terror attack.

Don't leave yet! Please join in the discussions. However, he said, "that does not exclude the possibility that she may have been radicalized ..."

The 24-year-old assailant, who did not have a police record, was overpowered by others in the supermarket and has been taken into custody. The victims were taken to hospital, with their injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Witnesses told Var-matin the young woman attacked a customer and employee. Police were searching her home.

The woman "was in a panic, she was afraid, she did not understand what was happening to her, she had no strength left", Sebastien said.

A French Forensic police officer walks into the supermarket where two people were injured.

A sense of edginess has been with France since a murderous series of killings in 2015 in the name of the Islamic State group.

On November 13, 2015, 130 people were killed in simultaneous coordinated attacks in Paris.
