Woman in 'Permit Patty' video speaks out

SEE IT White woman calls police on 8-year-old selling water bottles outside San Francisco apartment

A phone call to police has put the San Francisco Bay area is back in the news. After seeing this video of their CEO, calling the police on an eight-year-old entrepreneur selling water on a hot day, we decided without hesitation that we could no longer patronise her company.

A white California woman who said she was calling police on an eight-year-old black girl selling water has faced global backlash, with critics dubbing her "Permit Patty" and business partners severing ties. "She's calling police on an 8-year-old little girl", Austin said in the video.

"Yeah, and, um, illegally selling water without a permit?" the woman says into her phone. But the woman, Allison Ettel, said she wasn't being racist and that she was only pretending to call the cops. In another viral incident, a white man was dubbed "Jogger Joe" after he was caught on video in Oakland throwing away a black homeless man's belongings. She added, "It was literally nonstop". She left her office windows opened and was bothered by the constant screaming of "come and buy my water".

"Right there, he is half-Asian and half-white but he looks white, so they didn't stop him and I remember saying to my son, 'oh my gosh Riley you look white so they didn't stop you, if you looked Asian, they would have stopped you, '" she said. "I had been putting up with this for hours, and I just snapped".

"Make this bitch go viral like #bbqbecky she's #permitpatty", the mother (@ladyesowavy) wrote in the caption of the video on Instagram.

Many of Ettel's online critics have condemned her actions on Friday as racially motivated, an assessment Austin agrees with.

Black social media, meanwhile, compiled some hilariously petty memes and tweets and came after Ettel full throttle for her imprudent behavior.

Ettel also said that she never called to report Jordan, but rather to inquire about whether what the mother and daughter were doing was legal. "Thank you for teaching her all people aren't so shitty".

"Not on your property", Ettel retorted.

Ettel told "Today" that she's not proud of her behavior, and would like to apologize to the mother and daughter.

Ettel said that she was working in her vehicle with her windows open on a hot day while Austin and Rodgers shouted as they tried to sell water. She calling the police on an eight-year-old", the cousin narrated, before turning to Ettel: "You can hide all you want. Despite the attempts to save face, Austin, her daughter, and cousin Rajé Lee, who also watched the incident unfold, reject Ettel's too little, too late excuses.

Ettel told the HuffPost that she only pretended to call the cops, which is just as bad, if not worse.

In a tearful interview with Today, she said she's been getting hateful emails. She continued on to claim that she asked them to quiet down while she was working.
