Jerami Grant agrees with Oklahoma City Thunder, 3-year, $27 million contract

Paul George informs Oklahoma City Thunder he will become unrestricted free agent

Paul George is about to re-sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In 79 regular season games with the Thunder previous year, George averaged 21.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.

If Paul George doesn't re-sign with the Thunder, nobody will be more shocked about it than Russell Westbrook.

TheHoopCentral tweeted a video of George, standing next to Westbrook, announcing, "If y'all didn't quite get it, let me say it again: I'm here to stay". Most figured that he would ultimately return home to Los Angeles and sign with the Lakers. There would be nothing more awkward than getting everybody together for this, have it all leak to the media and then leave without George signed.

George will be an unrestricted free agent at midnight ET after declining his player option on Thursday. Oklahoma City fell to the Jazz in six games in the first round. The deal is reportedly for 4 years, $137 million. But considering the Thunder would be well north of $25 million over the luxury tax line in that scenario, that would take Oklahoma City's combined payroll and luxury taxes up to roughly $255 million. The hope in Oklahoma City is that this year, they'll mesh together and become a significant threat in the National Basketball Association.

While the reason for the party wasn't clear, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski pointed to something else going on in Oklahoma City on Friday. Anthony will be completely overpaid, but at least the Thunder will be able to field a compelling team. Anthony has a no-trade clause, but a trade that could precede a buyout to play elsewhere next season could be a move Anthony would welcome. In a league based on efficiency, George simply is not worth the money Oklahoma City is paying him.

Grant had his highest points per game average at 8.4 since the 2015-16 year, when he scored 9.7 points per game.
