Antonio Conte finally leaves Chelsea with £9m and bad feelings all round

Chelsea expect to appoint former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri as Conte's replacement

Conte took pre-season training this week but his future has been a source of contention and ex-Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri expected to take over.

Sky Sports reports that Chelsea has fired the Italian manager only one season removed from a Premier League title and on the heels of an FA Cup win.

Chelsea are expected to announce Sarri's appointment on an initial two-year contract imminently - together with the signing of Italy worldwide midfielder Jorginho for a combined fee of €65 million (£57.5m) - after convincing Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis to release the 59-year-old from his contract.

"[Sarri to Chelsea] is about to happen, it just depends on him", De Laurentiis said after a news conference to introduce Carlo Ancelotti as Sarri's replacement.

Antonio Conte took charge of Chelsea's preseason preparations with a double session at Cobham on Monday, sources have told ESPN FC.

Chelsea are also thought to be also close to signing Jorginho from Napoli, seemingly beating Man City to the Italy international's signature. "Jorginho would go to Chelsea regardless of Sarri".

Chelsea finished fifth in the table, five points behind Liverpool for the final Champions League spot.

He still had two seasons left on his Napoli contract and club owner Aurelio De Laurentiis believes his side is due compensation for Sarri.

"The Sarri affair is almost at its conclusion, it all depends on him".

This one is probably more of a dream than a reality for Chelsea fans, but Sarri may be able to force a move through.

An agreement in principle is in place to bring Sarri to West London, but Chelsea still need to work with Napoli to secure his release from his contract.

Koulibaly has been linked with Chelsea in the past, but that was a couple of years ago, and it looked like they moved on a bit with the signing of Antonio Rudiger last summer.
