No absentees for England training ahead of World Cup semi-final

Steven Gerrard was part of the England team beaten in the 2006 World Cup quarter-finals

There has been a relentless positivity and forward-looking tenor to England's approach to this World Cup but before the adventure in Russian Federation began, manager Gareth Southgate forced his players to confront a nightmare from the past.

"This was near my house opposite the school I used to go to", he said.

Such was the impact of that loss and the criticism it provoked, it must have been tempting for Southgate to tell his players to put that experience out of their minds.

It has been seven long weeks of hotel rooms and training-grounds since England's squad got together to begin preparing for what has become their World Cup odyssey but Young says there are no signs of cabin fever.

England manager Gareth Southgate has opted to keep a small personal guest-list for his side's World Cup semi-final against Croatia after deciding "big matches are a bit like weddings".

"They were sending them to their mums, dads and grandparents who wouldn't believe them when they said how similar I looked!"

"Our country has been through some hard moments recently in terms of its unity and I think sport has the power to do that and football in particular has the power to do that".

There's zero chance of Southgate losing his job as England boss as he hurtles towards a knighthood and superstardom.

Kane, who is the top goal scorer at the global showpiece in Russian Federation with six goals, feels reaching the final can inspire their next generation to keep dreaming big.

"I don't know what will happen if we win, probably nobody will go to work".

'I tweeted that team picture on Sunday, although I didn't mention that the trip was actually something of a sweetener for the lads, ' Southgate's former manager Alan Smith wrote in his Telegraph column.

"They've been through a lot", Southgate added.

"But of course you get an accumulation of fatigue, through a tournament that's why we took the decision we did against Belgium more than anything".

This will subsequently leave Belgium to defeat England in the final meaning football will not be "coming home" this summer, (according to the model)! "We're not working much now so you can imagine what it will be like if we win".
