Thai soccer boys after escaping cave: 'Don't worry anymore'

‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Director Will Make Thai Rescue Movie to Avoid Hollywood ‘Whitewashing’

The Philippines on Friday joined the global community in rejoicing with Thailand after the daring rescue of 12 members of a boys soccer team and their coach in a flooded cave complex in the northern part of the country.

A screen grab shows boys rescued from the Thai cave wearing mask and resting in a hospital in Chiang Rai, Thailand from a July 11, 2018 handout video.

"Hello, my name is Biw, I am fine", 14-year-old Ekarat Wongsukchan said.

Volanthen, a member of the British Cave Rescue Council (BCRC), was one of the two British divers who found the Thai boys and their coach.

"I will tell Dom that he has to thank all the Thai people from all over the country and people from all over the world who were kind enough to come and help Dom".

The last of the boys was freed on July 10 and they are expected to be discharged from hospital on Thursday.

Tim Acton, 39, said: "Our job was to get them out, not to medically check on them, but you couldn't help noticing how terribly vulnerable they were". Duangpetch said that Ekkapon told the boys not to move and to stay still so that they would save their energy.

While the boys and their coach are now in good health, there is concern about how they will deal with their fame, given the huge attention on the case within Thailand and beyond. While recovering in the hospital, most of the flood victims had regained some of that weight.

"Even though they are about to leave in the days ahead ... they aren't as strong as a normal person, they still need to rest and improve their health, and body", he said. To avoid mental stress, they should spend at least the next month only with family and friends, avoiding media encounters that might trigger post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms, the statement said. "Thank you everybody who support us and who send us inspiration".

Thai authorities are planning to turn the cave into a "living museum" while the idea of turning the rescue into movies has also been mooted.

Public Health Minister Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn said the group is in good health both physically and mentally and laboratory results are negative for risky infectious diseases. "He told me when I visited him in the hospital that he planned to go into the cave for just an hour and go home", Aikan said.

Kunan died due to a lack of oxygen on his way out of Tham Luang on the morning of Jul 6.

And the Thai Navy SEAL diver who died during the rescue effort will get royal recognition by decree of the King of Thailand.
