Pakistan election rigged in Imran Khan's favour, claims opponent

Indian media dubs Imran Khan as'Taliban Khan

The ECP was also criticised for deploying the Army both inside and outside of polling stations. This would be the largest deployment for any election in the country's history. This has also affected the traditional election fervour.

PPP candidate Mukhtar Abbas has also petitioned the Islamabad High Court against the notification and asked for the election to be held as soon as possible.

Armed soldiers stood guard as election officials in the capital distributed ballot boxes and voting material at polling stations across the city.

In 2013, Mr Gandapur's brother, Israrullah, who was then the provincial law minister, was killed in a suicide attack on his home.

Despite the controversies and bloodshed, political parties continued to crisscross the country in the final days before the polls, holding dozens of rallies in key battleground areas.

Khan's chances of becoming the next Prime Minister have only brightened after former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was jailed on corruption charges last week.

A candidate in this week's general elections was killed Sunday in a suicide bomb attack while on his way to a campaign event in northwest Pakistan, adding to concerns over public safety in an election in which at least 160 people have died this month in political attacks.

Khan, however, has repeatedly denied claims that he is linked to, or supported by the military.

Gandapur served as the provincial agricultural minister in the PTI-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet.

Ikramullah Gandapur, a Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) election candidate was killed in a suicide bombing in Dera Ismail Khan in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Province on Sunday, Dawn News reported.

Mushahid Hussain Sayed, a PML-N senator, said the party had delivered on promises to reduce electricity shortages and improve infrastructure.

"They have served the masses, they have put an end to..."

Earlier, PTI Chief Imran Khan took to Twitter to condemn the "cowardly terrorist attack".

In southern Punjab, PML-N leader Shahbaz Sharif - the former premier's brother - said victory was "certain".

Recent polls show PTI's popularity climbing nationally.

Activists and think tanks have also widely decried a "silent coup" by Pakistan's generals. He died a short while later in a military hospital, Afridi said.

Some vowed to take to the streets if directed by their leaders.

"It's two planks", Sayed said of the PML-N's appeal to voters.
