House Republicans Introduce Articles of Impeachment Against Rod Rosenstein

The House left Thursday afternoon for a five-week recess. Republican congressmember and Freedom Caucus chair Mark Meadows says he will instead seek to charge Rosenstein with contempt of Congress if he doesn't turn over documents Meadows is seeking.

The Speaker also argued that the deconfliction process with providing documents to Congress is essential.

That's why they filed a resolution Wednesday evening to impeach Rosenstein for failure to turn over the documents, among other grievances.

"Hopefully saner minds will prevail on the Republican side", she said.

Rosenstein, a Republican appointed by Trump, vigorously defended the department during recent Congressional hearings earlier this month, insisting politics played no role in Mueller's probe.

Rosenstein oversees the probe, which is run by special counsel Robert Mueller.

The Justice Department says the only thing that has been withheld is a list of which Trump associates are under investigation, the Washington Post reported.

The Justice Department declined to comment.

The officials said the only document the department won't make available to lawmakers is an unredacted version of a memorandum from Rosenstein to Mueller authorizing specific activities once he took over the Russian Federation investigation. The DOJ has been steadfastly refusing to release documents Congress has demanded under authority of their oversight powers.

"Technically I could still file it today, I am not doing that", he said.

The Department of Justice, under the supervision of Mr. Rosenstein, unnecessarily redacted the price of FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe's $70,000 conference table because it was potentially embarrassing information.

"We are exhausted of the justice department giving us the finger and not giving us the information we are entitled to do to do our constitutional duty of the American people are sick of it".

Maybe Meadows and Jordan simply wanted to make sure the first serious talk of impeachment in the House would be about someone other than the president.

While the scoping memo is cited in Meadows' impeachment resolution, he acknowledged Thursday that it fell outside the subpoena and might not need to be produced in order for the Justice Department to comply with the subpoena.

"So, for many reasons, I don't think it's the right way to go", Ryan said. They also accuse Rosenstein of signing off on improper surveillance of a Trump adviser.

Later in the Fox News interview, Meadows hinted he may try to force a vote on the House floor about the articles of impeachment against Rosenstein as soon as Thursday. Gowdy, who is opposed to trying to impeach Rosenstein, told reporters afterward that he thought the meeting had been productive "because we're making progress towards compliance".

The effort, spearheaded by Reps. "That is where I'd like to see them focus their time".

"I'm as troubled as anyone by this", Rep. Chris Stewart, a Utah Republican, said of the difficulty obtaining documents.
