'Stolen' plane from Seattle airport crashes into sea

A Twitter user took video of the plane before it crashed

An apparently suicidal mechanic stole an empty passenger plane from the Seattle-Tacoma airport late on Friday, took it for a brief flight then crashed it.

The Alaska Air Group, which owns Horizon confirmed the "unauthorised take-off" of the Q400, saying no passengers were on board at the time.

The Q400 did a loop the loop and nearly crashed into Chambers Bay, and then flew further south chased by two F-15 Eagle fighter jets from the Air National Guard in Portland.

The sheriff's office also said that the F-15s, which were scrambled out of Portland, in the nearby state of OR, arrived minutes after the plane was stolen and kept the aircraft "out of harms way and people on ground safe".

An airline worker stole an empty plane from Seattle airport on Friday and crashed it into a nearby sparsely populated island, sparking a security scare that saw USA fighter jets scrambled. "Was doing stunts in air or lack of flying skills caused crash into Island".

Officials with Alaska Airlines confirmed the plane as a Bombardier Q400 that belongs to Horizon Air.

"Oh man", Rich immediately responded, "Those guys will rough me up if I try and land there".

The unidentified 29-year-old mechanic was pronounced dead after the crash, Pierce County Sheriff Paul Pastor said.

The plane was chased by military aircraft, witnesses said.

Mr Waldron said the plane at its lowest point was no more than 100ft (30.5m) above the water.

It said that the F-15 pilots kept the "Q400 out of harm's way and people on the ground safe". Preliminary info is that a mechanic from unknown airlines stole plane.

Alaska Airlines said no structures on the ground were damaged. "But that's what's happening at Sea-Tac Airport right now".

Footage shows pilot attempt the aerial maneuver after he hijacked the plane from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in Washington state.

Air traffic controllers attempted to talk the man into landing at McChord field - but he refused.

Royal King of Mukilteo was photographing a wedding at Lake Steilacoom when he saw a low-flying plane and two F-15 fighter jets trailing it.

The man could reportedly be heard on audio recordings telling air traffic controllers that he is "just a broken guy". He didn't hear the crash, but saw smoke. "Normal operations at Sea-Tac Airport have resumed", Seattle-Tacoma International Airport tweeted.
