Pentagon pushes Trump's military parade to 2019

Trump’s Military Parade Now Estimated to Cost $92 Million, Report Says

Hours earlier, officials said costs had blown out to US$92 million. The cost was initially put at a minimum of $10 million, a decline in real terms on a parade marking the end of the Gulf War in... The official spoke on the condition of anonymity.

On Friday, the president blamed local politicians for the high costs, even though the cost estimate is generally for expenses deemed necessary by the Pentagon and federal agencies.

Trump said the drills were provocative and that dumping them would save the United States "a tremendous amount of money". In February, White House budget director Mick Mulvaney estimated the cost to be from $10 million and $30 million. The Pentagon announced on Thursday that the November parade has been postponed indefinitely, and won't happen "until at least next year". "Any cost estimates are pre-decisional". "Now we can buy some more jet fighters!"

The parade was expected to include troops from the army, navy, air force, marine corps and coastguard as well as units in period uniforms representing the nation's history and include a number of flyovers.

A memo when the plan was first mooted said no tanks would be used so as not to damage the roads of the nation's capital. Instead, he is blaming the government of the District of Columbia, which is conveniently civilian and heavily African-American.

The president requested the route for the parade be from the White House to Capitol Hill. U.S. Northern Command, which oversees U.S. troops in North America, is responsible for the actual execution of the parade.

His decision to cancel the parade comes one day after the Pentagon raised the estimated cost of holding a parade to $92 million, a drastically higher figure than previous estimates.

In the Legion statement, however, National Commander Denise Rohan cautioned that a parade at the current time would be premature since the US still remains engaged in the war on terror (the last time a parade was held in Washington was to celebrate the end of the Gulf War in 1991).

Trump had called for the patriotic show of force a year ago after watching France's Bastille Day celebration in the center of Paris at the invitation of the French president.

President Donald Trump has been a big promoter of his planned military parade on November 10.
