People are burning Nike because Colin Kaepernick fronts its new campaign

'Believe in Something.' Colin Kaepernick Is the Face of Nike's New 'Just Do It' Campaign

Shares in the Beaverton, Oregon-based Nike Inc fell more than 2 percent after Kaepernick posted a black-and-white close-up of himself on Instagram on Monday featuring the Nike logo and "Just do it" slogan, along with the quote: "Believe in something".

Kaepernick, 30, who is now without a team, sparked a wave of protests across the National Football League and other athletic events in 2016 after he started kneeling during the American national anthem to protest against police brutality against African Americans. Though he is not now signed with any team in the National Football League, the 30-year-old has signed on with Nike for a multi-year deal, according to CBS San Francisco.

He also termed the ad's tagline "factually ludicrous" because of Kaepernick being on Nike's payroll. Since then, many other National Football League players have joined the controversial protest, angering fans and most notably President Trump.

Others have suggested that if people burning their Nike merchandise really cared about supporting veterans and felt that Kaepernick's protests, and Nike's partnership by extension, insulted veterans and the military, then they would have donated their goods to a charity that supports veterans, instead of making an ashen gesture.

What's more, he said, the move sends a strong signal to their current roster of athletes and positions Nike as a savvy risk-taker.

Nike is turning to Colin Kaepernick for the 30th anniversary of its "Just do it" ad campaign.

Appearing on "Fox and Friends", Carlson took particular aim at the Nike officials for featuring Kaepernick in the spot for the 30th anniversary of the company's "Just do it" campaign. De La Hoya expects to generate more than $200 million in pay-per-view sales. Soon Twitter was inundated by reports of former customers who refused to further do business with Nike.

In ongoing litigation, Kaepernick alleges the league and all 32 teams colluded to keep him unsigned because of his outspoken political views.

Kaepernick has been a polarising figure since 2016, when, as a player for the San Francisco 49ers, he refused to stand during the national anthem.

Other social media users took a different tactic in response to Nike's new campaign.

And the NFL's first one handed player, Seattle Seahawks linebacker Shaquem Griffin, who is an amputee, is also featured in the campaign.

Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything. Nike, for its part, has previously said that it "supports athletes and their right to freedom of expression on issues that are of great importance to our society".
