Larger iPhones revealed: Dual SIM XS, XS Max in new gold, 512GB

Big hitters

The bigger news - literally - is the iPhone Xs Max, of course. It retains the key advances of the first iPhone X - facial recognition and an edge-to-edge display - but is cheaper while being noticeably larger at 6.1 inches. As a point of comparison, the regular Xs costs £999 (the same price as last year's iPhone X) and the iPhone XR will start at £749. Apple used older LCD screen technology and aluminum, rather than stainless steel, edges.

Screen size. Like the iPhone X before it, the Xs Max uses an organic liquid crystal display, which are renowned for richer colors, while putting less stress on the battery.

And the iPhone, as always, will come with significantly better customer experience, too - you can get support at an Apple store, getting a damaged phone fixed is a much more expedited process, and you're guaranteed to have a wider range of accessories and cases to choose from.

The iPhone Xs Max, pronounced like "tennis max", might just as well be read as "excess max". The XS Max, which looks to be about the size of the iPhone 8 Plus but with a much bigger display, will become the most expensive iPhone ever, starting at $1,099 in the USA and €1,249 ($1,452) in Germany. Both phones have "Super Retina" displays with the highest pixel density of any iOS devices.

Low-cost phones could help put more devices in circulation to consume Apple's growing set of services like Apple Music, iCloud, and Apple Pay.

Apple said its new 12-megapixel dual camera system brings more detail to iPhone photos and allows users to take "more sophisticated portraits". Furthermore, the Xr model lacks 3D Touch, but instead, incorporates a "Haptic Touch", which Apple is marketing, as a long-press is accompanied with haptic feedback.

With the added feature, photographers can change how crisply a photo's background is displayed, so that they can better emphasize the picture's subject.

However, there's been one area that Apple has been ignoring for a while now which is dual SIM capabilities and with the iPhone XS, Apple finally checks that box as well.

Apple introduced three updated versions of its iPhone X handset and a watch that detects an irregular heartbeat on Wednesday.

What's clever is that as a contact begins to speak their image gets bigger on your display.

Pre-orders for the new phone will open on Friday, October 19 while the on-sale date will be October 26 here in the UK. All of this gives you significant performance bumps, with apps opening 30 percent faster while using less power.

iPhone XR camera: What's the camera like on the iPhone Xr?

Apple's removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack has been considered a controversial and user-hostile decision beginning with the iPhone 7, so it's no surprise the latest devices are also missing the port. The GPU is up to 50% faster than the GPU in the A11 Bionic processor in the iPhone X. The A12 Bionic chip can handle up to 5 trillion operations per second, compared to the 600 billion for the iPhone X.
