Miffed with the way Carlos Ramos is being criticised after the chair umpire handed code violations to Serena Williams in the US Open 2018 final, tennis umpires are discussing the possibility of boycotting the 23-time Grand Slam champion's matches.

Citing a lack of official support for chair umpire Carlos Ramos after he stuck to the rulebook by penalizing Williams, other umpires and officials are concerned about the WTA's lack of support. "You can easily get depressed", she said. "Overall I felt really happy and know I accomplished a lot". "At the time, I did. think that they were booing at me".

The governing body's support for Ramos came after the WTA, which operates the women's tour, was critical of the way things went between him and Williams in NY.

Williams was fined $17,000 for the rules violations, and the International Tennis Federation backed Ramos, saying his "decisions were in accordance with the relevant rules".

It is bad enough that a star of Williams stature exploded in such a politically charged rant at the judge, but what hurt the judges even more is that both the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) and United States Tennis Association (USTA) came to Williams' support on her charges against the judge.

The incident has gobbled headlines all week, with some, such as Billie Jean King and USTA head Katrina Adams, saying tennis has a double standard in which men are not similarly punished for outbursts and others, such as Martina Navratilova and Mary Carillo, defending tennis's rules.

But for now Osaka is itching to do normal stuff - like catch up with big sister Mari, who is also a professional tennis player, go shopping and eat her favourite matcha ice cream.

"While I was playing the U.S. Open and Kei (Nishikori) was doing well".

At the post-match press-conference, Williams took aim at Ramos and suggested male players would not have been punished in the same way she was during her final. Once renewed, she can be part of Forbes' list of highest-paid women in sports, possibly placing second-just below Serena.

Ramos has since spoken out about the backlash via Portugal's Tribuna Expresso. "It's a delicate situation, but a la carte arbitration does not exist".

Meanwhile, tennis umpires are also considering forming a union as they feel no one is standing up for them. "Don't you worry about me!"

One source, who has been privy to some of the discussions, said: "Umpires don't have any independent means of representation and are employed by the governing bodies".
