Tennis Umpires Mulling Boycott Of Serena Williams Matches

Umpires reportedly considering Boycott of Serena Williams Matches

Williams' claims of sexism were backed by the governing body of women's tennis, the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), whose chief executive said the umpire had shown the 36-year-old a different level of tolerance than if she had been a man.

The rulings by Ramos and outcome of the match stirred controversy, with some backing Williams, believing she'd been unfairly ruled against, and others believing her behavior justified the violations.

"This week has been a dream come to life, and I'm so honored to represent Japan and Nissan on the world stage", Osaka said in a statement. 'She's right about the guys being held to a different standard, there's no question.' The Australian 24-time Grand Slam victor Margaret Court said: 'We always had to go by the rules.

Williams accused Ramos of being "sexist" by suggesting the same penalty wouldn't be handed out to a male player, however Strycova wasn't buying it and thought the outburst warranted Ramos' intervention.

Despite being in tears on Saturday while receiving the trophy inside the Arthur Ashe Stadium in NY - after Williams' outburst at umpire Carlos Ramos, calling him a "liar" and a "thief" - Osaka said she holds no ill-feelings about what happened.

With her first Grand Slam title in hand, Osaka is close to signing a deal with Adidas that would make her the brand's highest-paid female athlete, according to reports on Thursday.

'I was looking away, but I heard a lot of people in the crowd making noises, and I really wanted to turn around, but I didn't, ' she said.

Much of the criticism of Williams has centred on how her actions had spoiled a precious moment for Osaka, who was even moved to apologise for beating the home favourite to a NY crowd angrily booing Ramos.

"In Japan, they assume that bi-racial athletes have physical advantages", she said.

Now, Adams and Ramos have come face to face in Zadar ahead of the U.S. team's Davis Cup tie against Croatia where the veteran official will oversee some of the matches.

Ramos told the Portuguese newspaper, Tribuna Expresso, "I'm fine, given the circumstances".

"At the time, I did kind of think they were booing at me 'cause I couldn't tell what was going on because it was just so loud in there, so it was a little bit stressful". How dare you insinuate that I was cheating?
