John Lynch says 49ers have made call on Josh Gordon

Josh Gordon Released by Cleveland Browns

If Josh Gordon has any say in where he gets traded, then don't be surprised if the Browns wide receiver ends up in Dallas or San Francisco.

No specifics were given over the reasoning behind Gordon's departure, but the 27 -year-old thanked the city of Cleveland following the news via an Instagram story.

The Cleveland Browns reportedly are expected to trade their star wide receiver in the coming days, and suitors already are lining up.

Gordon has been suspended multiple times for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. Until Julian Edelman returns from his four-game suspension, they have four just receivers on the 53-man roster Chris Hogan, Cordarrelle Patterson, Phillip Dorsett and newly-acquired Corey Coleman, who played with Gordon in Cleveland previous year.

Cleveland announced its plans to cut ties with Gordon Saturday. I've always been honest and up front with our guys about what we're doing as an organization 'cause I think that's the way it should be.

General Manager John Dorsey released a statement Saturday that the team and Gordon had "reached a point where we feel it's best to part ways and move forward".

"I'm extremely honoured and blessed to grow up and start a life amongst such a passionate and motivated group of individuals". I wish all of you nothing but the best. And according to Schefter, Gordon injured that hamstring at a "promotional shoot".

"'Same book, next chapter...'" he added. "P.S". For two of those campaigns, 2014 and 2017, the back was teammates with wide receiver Josh Gordon.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan should be well-acquainted with Gordon.

In a trade scenario, Baltimore should be interested targeting Gordon depending on the price.

The NFL realized Gordon's Hall of Fame-caliber talent during his historic 2013 season, but he'll be remembered most in Cleveland for the personal issues that prevented him from truly flourishing with the Browns.
