SpaceX name FIRST PERSON it will take around the Moon

"Only 24 humans have been to the Moon in history", SpaceX said on Twitter, adding that no one has visited the moon since the last Apollo mission in 1972.

He wrote on his caption: 'My mission to go around the moon, as the first private passenger, will represent the imagination and curiosity of all people.

SpaceX founder and chief executive Elon Musk outlined a somewhat different mission past year.

In a webcast in the past hour, SpaceX supremo Elon Musk revealed that the passenger is none other than Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa, and the flight will hopefully take place by 2023 at the latest.

The trip will be made using SpaceX's BFR: its Big Falcon Rocket (or Big F**king Rocket, depending on how much someone's been smoking). The BFR ship won't be making a stopover on the lunar surface, though.

Maezawa wouldn't reveal the cost for the tickets, but said he has already put down a deposit that Musk then described as "a non-trivial amount".

The first space tourist was Dennis Tito, an American businessman who in 2001 paid some $20million to fly on a Russian spaceship to the International Space Station.

The BFR will be constructed at a SpaceX facility in Los Angeles and is being created to handle everything from missions to Earth orbit to long-term cargo and crew missions to Mars.

'This is unsafe, to be clear. There's some chance that something could go wrong. When you're pushing the frontier, it's not a sure thing. The moon trip would last four to five days, he said.

BFR will inevitably borrow heavily from almost a decade of designing, building, testing, launching, and upgrading 60+ Falcon 9 and Heavy rockets, all successes and failures included.

Per the Verge, Musk also showed off another revision to the BFR, stating that the new design would have seven instead of six large Raptor engines, boast additional cargo room on the rocket's bottom, and have three instead of two rear fins as well as front actuator fins.

The BFR spacecraft's shape is reminiscent of the space shuttle, the bus-like USA spaceships that carried astronauts to space 135 times from 1981 to 2011.

Announced a year ago, the BFR ship will sit 118 metres long - previously announced as 106 metres (347 feet) long - and Musk has said the ship will contain up to 40 cabins which will have enough space for 100 people. Company representatives declined to offer additional details Friday. "But we're going to do everything humanly possible to bring it to flight as fast as we can and as safely as we can".

An off-the-cuff tweet also left investors reeling after Musk said he planned to take Tesla, his electric auto company, private. SpaceX hasn't yet launched any humans into space, though it has spent years working toward that goal.
