Cleveland Cavaliers are interested in trading for Jimmy Butler

Karl Anthony Towns

Butler is eyeing the Knicks, Nets and Clippers.

So, what would a Wolves-Heat trade involving Butler look like?

Various rumors over the past year have suggested Butler would also be interested in teaming up with Boston Celtics guard Kyrie Irving, who could be a free agent after this season as well. Minnesota owner Glen Taylor "prefers to find a deal by early this week", Wojnarowski added.

If General Manager Koby Altman and Gilbert can meet the Timberwolves' asking price, they will have the challenge of trying to convince Jimmy Butler to sign long term next off-season.

Butler's interest in the Clippers is fueled in part because Los Angeles will have two max contract slots available in July, ESPN reported, citing league sources.

In 59 games for the Timberwolves last season, Butler averaged 22.2 points per game on 47.4 per cent shooting.

"On June 25, 2015, I was drafted to and committed to the Minnesota Timberwolves", Towns said in a statement, per his Instagram.

Butler, 29, is playing on the past year of a contract that will pay him almost $20 million next season and has made it clear he does not intend to re-sign with Minnesota. He is scheduled to earn a base salary of $18.7 million in 2018-19.

The Timberwolves and center Karl Anthony-Towns have reportedly agreed on a five-year, $190 million super-maximum contract extension, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowksi. He has made the All-NBA Third Team twice and the All-Defensive Second Team four times.

His task then would be to persuade Butler to stay in Minnesota and sign a new deal as the season progresses, hoping the likes of Towns and Andrew Wiggins improve dramatically as well.
