'Dark Phoenix' Official Trailer (2019) | Sophie Turner, Jennifer Lawrence

X-Men Dark Phoenix

After months of reshuffled release dates for X-Men: Dark Phoenix, we finally have a trailer to pore over.

The film - a continuation of "First Class", "Days of Future Past" and "Apocalypse" - is an adaptation of the "Dark Phoenix Saga" from the Marvel comics, which finds Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) turning to the, well, dark side after an nearly fatal accident in space. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is almost killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. The incident leaves her infinitely more powerful, but also dangerously unstable. As she battles with this new reality, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can't understand or contain. Ready to witness the rise of one of the most powerful mutants in the X-Men universe?

In the first trailer, we see how Jean Grey (Turner) came to find herself at Xavier's school and how her powers were uncontrollable.

Jean Grey, who's as complicated as it gets for superheroes, will be played by Sansa - I mean, Sophie Turner, of Game of Thrones fame. Instead, it will just be called Dark Phoenix.

X-Men Dark Phoenix Space

Directed by Simon Kinberg, Dark Phoenix is set to arrive in theatres on February 14, 2019.

Time marches on for the X-Men team and their experiences here point to the fact that few of them will be queuing up to go on those I Love The '90s shows. Maybe. It's a bit early to judge from a first teaser which is probably holding a bunch of stuff back, but this is hitting far too many beats from X-Men: The Last Stand for my liking, instead of embracing the cosmic aspects of the Dark Phoenix Saga. Does this new synopsis intrigue you?

Watch the first trailer tonight, and see the full film on Valentine's Day.

Pretty much everyone from X-Men: Apocalypse is returning, including Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, and Jennifer Lawrence - with the film focused on the character of Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) as she flirts with evil.
