Palestinian kills 2 Israelis in West Bank industrial zone

Israeli security forces search the northern West Bank after a fatal shooting attack in Barkan Industrial Park in the northern West Bank

A Palestinian gunman on Sunday shot and killed two Israelis and injured one other before fleeing the scene of the attack at a West Bank industrial park, the Israeli military said.

Since the attack was allegedly carried out by a Palestinian employed at the Barkan industrial zone in the occupied West Bank, questions were raised over whether he knew the victims and over the motivation behind the shooting.

Magen David Adom emergency medical services said their medics had entered a building at Barkan where they found a man and woman, both without a pulse, and pronounced them dead.

A third woman also shot in the attack was hospitalised in stable condition.

IDF, Shin Bet and Border Police forces continued operations in the village of Shuweika, near Tulkarem, the home of Ashraf Na'alowa, 23, who on Sunday killed coworkers Kim Levengrond Yehezkel, 28, and Ziv Hajbi, 35, and wounded Sara Vaturi, 54, using a locally produced Carlo-style submachine gun.

The army called the shooting a "terrorist attack", adding however that other unspecified factors were involved. The Israeli Defense Forces said they are investigating how the suspect was able to bring a weapon into the industrial park.

Surveillance camera footage broadcast on Israeli television showed a man armed with a rifle fleeing down stairs and running away from the factory.

The industrial zone is located next to the Israeli settlement Barkan and near the settlement of Ariel in the north of the West Bank.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the attack and vowed deal with the "reprehensible murderer" to "the fullest extent of the law".

"This was a serious terrorist attack", the military said in a statement.

Palestinian militant groups praised the attack, calling it revenge for Israeli "crimes" towards the Palestinians.

A manager at another company in the industrial zone, Moshe Lev-Ran, suggested the attack might not have been politically motivated. Large numbers of IDF and Shin Bet security service forces have launched a manhunt for the suspect, whose identity is known to security forces.

A number of attacks have occurred at that location, the Gush Etzion Junction.
