Florida man dies after Hurricane Michael slams into Panhandle

'One Scary-Looking Storm': Watch Michael Arrive in Video from Space Station

President Donald Trump declared a state of emergency for all of Florida on Wednesday.

Similar scenes are emerging across the Florida Panhandle, where Hurricane Michael left more than 350,000 without power and entire neighborhoods in ruins after hitting Wednesday afternoon near Mexico Beach as a powerful Category 4 storm.

It's the worst storm to hit the Florida panhandle in over a century.

Rob Golding opened up his home to some of his neighbors whose homes were heavily damaged. That includes grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-priced loans for uninsured property losses and other programs to help with recovery.

"We basically just walked away from everything and said goodbye to it", he said, tears welling up.

There has never been a Category 4 hurricane make landfall on the Florida Panhandle - ever. The highest likelihood of any flooding is going to be south of Boston, although there can always be temporary street flooding from some of the downpours as we head into the evening. The major hurricane had moved within 40 miles of Panama City and 35 miles of Mexico Beach.

On Tuesday, storm scientists predicted that Hurricane Michael would continue gaining strength as the cyclone approached the coast.

"Michael is forecast to re-strengthen some Thursday night and Friday when it moves off the east coast of the United States and becomes a post-tropical cyclone on Friday", the NHC added.
