Khashoggi's fiancee will only visit the White House if Trump investigates

Freed American pastor Andrew Brunson shakes hands with US President Donald Trump at the White House in Washington DC

According to the kingdom's official SPA news agency, Riyadh said it would retaliate in case any possible economic sanctions were taken by other states over the case of Jamal Khashoggi in what has been seen as an allusion to calls on the U.S. administration for revoking its hefty arms deal with Saudi Arabia.

Three days after the journalist disappeared, Saudi's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in an interview with Bloomberg, said that Turkish authorities were welcome to search inside the consulate building.

John Brennan, the former Central Intelligence Agency director who previously served as a Central Intelligence Agency station chief in Saudi Arabia, said Sunday during an appearance on "Meet the Press" that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has become "emboldened" to be more aggressive by his relationship with Trump and Jared Kushner, the president's son-in-law and a top White House aide.

The Turkish leadership has so far stopped short of accusing Saudi Arabia, although pro-government media have published sensational claims, including that an "assassination team" was sent to Istanbul to kill Khashoggi.

Saudi Arabia warned Sunday it will respond to any "threats" against it as its stock market plunged following President Donald Trump's warning of "severe punishment" over the disappearance of Washington Post contributor Jamal Khashoggi.

"I do think that arms sales will be effected", the senator said, referring to US weapons sales to Saudi Arabia.

Foreign capital is key to those plans. But Khashoggi's disappearance has led several business leaders and media outlets to back out of the upcoming investment conference in Riyadh called the Future Investment Initiative.

The BBC said a joint statement of condemnation was also being discussed by USA and European diplomats if it is confirmed Khashoggi was killed by Saudi agents.

A bipartisan group of senators has already written to the White House invoking the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act to demand an investigation into the disappearance and possible sanctions against Saudi Arabia.

"The position of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its centrality in worldwide relations make it above suspicions", said Al-Othaimeen.

Marco Rubio and Jeff Flake, members of the Foreign Relations Committee, said Congress was prepared to move quickly and firmly if President Donald Trump failed to adequately respond to the October 2 disappearance of Khashoggi, a Washington Post contributor.

"The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia extends it appreciation to all, including the United States administration, for refraining from jumping to conclusions on the ongoing investigation".

Mr Trump said: "There's a lot at stake".

He had been living in a self-imposed exile in Washington D.C. for over a year when he went to the Saudi consulate on October 2 to obtain a document that would allow him to marry Cengiz.

"I believe the Trump administration will do something, the president has said that", Rubio told CNN's State of the Union.

Threatening to impose economic sanctions and repeating "false accusations" will not undermine the country's standing, said the statement on Saudi Arabia's official press agency, which quoted an "official source". "I don't want to put you on the spot, but if you guys would like to tell them some of the many things we can do".

Trump added, "We're going to get to the bottom of it, and there will be severe punishment".

Mr Trump said: "They are ordering military equipment".

Trump made a point of visiting the kingdom on his first overseas trip as president and has touted arms sales to Saudi Arabia.
