Pipe bomb suspect built devices in his van, sources say

Facebook Proactively Erased Pages Praising Mail Bombs Before Suspect's Arrest

All those who received the devices in the mail are vocal critics of Donald Trump.

Sayoc is being prosecuted in NY, so his Florida hearing will likely be brief and process-oriented.

Given the serious nature of the charges against Sayoc and his extensive criminal history, he is expected to remain locked up pending trial.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said that Sayoc, who at various times has worked as a night club disc jockey, bouncer and pizza delivery driver, could face up to 48 years in prison if he is convicted.

Investigators are also analyzing Sayoc's impounded van in which he lived and allegedly built the pipe bombs because it contains a trove of valuable evidence, from explosive-device materials to credit-card receipts. According to Wray, they were all made of about 15 cm of PVC pipe, a small clock, a battery, some wiring and potential explosives. Authorities told the Associated Press the devices were not rigged to explode when the packages were opened, but they said they were not sure if that is because the devices were poorly made or were not meant to harm.

The bubble-wrapped manila envelopes, addressed to Democrats such as Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton and intercepted from DE to California, held vital forensic evidence that investigators say they leveraged to arrest Sayoc four days after the investigation started.

Investigators at the Federal Bureau of Investigation lab in Quantico, Va., also identified a possible DNA match from two of the homemade pipe bombs. Other charges against him have included grand theft, fraud and illegal possession of steroids.

The suspects van was covered with pro-Trump stickers and targets over the images of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

The packages turned up between Monday and Friday in New York, California and Washington.

The package sent to Clapper was addressed to him and CNN, where he is a contributor, but it was intercepted in a Manhattan mail facility, reports CBS News.

The lawyer said Sayoc was a bodybuilder then, and displayed no political leanings except for plastering a vehicle he owned with Native American signs.

A tweet from the account law enforcement officials say belongs to Cesar Sayoc, apparently threatening former Vice President Joe Biden.

This frame grab from video provided by WPLG-TV shows Federal Bureau of Investigation agents escorting Cesar Sayoc, in sleeveless shirt, in Miramar, Fla., on Friday, Oct. 26, 2018.

'We will not tolerate such lawlessness, especially not political violence'.

"There's no blame, there's no anything", Trump said. "Though his views and political rhetoric seemed off-putting, people who knew him said he wasn't capable of violence". "The media's constant unfair coverage, deep hostility and negative attacks only serve to drive people apart and undermine healthy debate".

Earlier in the day the United States president complained on Twitter that this "bomb stuff" had slowed momentum for the Republicans ahead of the USA mid-term elections.
