Rescue workers and boats on the site where a public bus plunged into the Yangtze River after colliding with a auto in Chongqing, China on Oct 28, 2018.

Rescuers lifted the wreck of the bus from the river Wednesday night.

Footage published by the newspaper appeared to show the fight between the driver and passenger and then screams could be heard form the passengers as the bus veered out of control.

A fist fight between a woman passenger and a driver caused a bus to plunge from a bridge into the mighty Yangtze River in southwest China, killing at least 13 people, police said on Friday.

He refused, and she went on to hit his head with her mobile phone, prompting the driver to strike her back.

The bus suddenly veered into the wrong lane and collided with an oncoming auto on Sunday in Chongqing before it drove off the bridge. Two passengers remain missing, state-run Xinhua news agency reported on Friday.

For days after the accident, the No. 22 bus lay at the bottom of the Yangtze River - in waters more than 70 meters (230 feet) deep.

Authorities ultimately blamed the 42-year-old bus driver for not following safety protocols but found that both the passenger and the driver had broken the law and endangered public safety.

Police said the passenger, identified as a 48-year-old woman with the surname Liu, was angry that the bus had missed her stop. The driver's right hand came off the steering wheel during the altercation, which led to the steering wheel turning sharply to the left, the report said.
