AMC has released further promotional material for its second season of Hell on Wheels. Set to launch on Sunday, August 12th, the sophomore year for this acclaimed TV Western series has recently been previewed by several members of its strong ensemble cast. That cast includes Anson Mount as the revenge-seeking former Confederate soldier, Cullen Bohannon, hip-hop artist and poet Common as the emancipated Elam Ferguson, Colm Meaney as railroad tycoon, Thomas Durant, and Dominique McElligott as the widowed Englishwoman, Lily Bell.

The first season ended with Bohannon facing possible consequences for how he has carried out his revenge mission to date – Bohannon had traveled to the mobile railway town “Hell on Wheels” to avenge the death of his family by a Union gang during the US Civil War. Another thread to be picked up in the second season is the development of a permanent town for those who have chosen to remain behind as the Union Pacific railway workers continue westward.
In the following clip, cast members share their view that the second season will move from the first year’s episodic focus to a more character-driven narrative arc:
One of the historically-based story components for the second season will be a major construction project that actually took place in western Nebraska – viewers will be able to visually chart the progress of a railway bridge across a gorge.
