A new Longmire novel is coming from author Craig Johnson this month. Spirit of Steamboat will be released by Viking on October 17th and will mark the 10th installment in the popular Western mystery book series. The first novel in the series, The Cold Dish, was released in 2004.
Based in Ucross, Wyoming, Johnson, a former law enforcement officer, is also a creative consultant for the critically-acclaimed A&E TV adaptation of the novels. The lead character of the books, Sheriff Walt Longmire of the fictional Wyoming county of Absaroka, is played by Robert Taylor in the TV series. Johnson’s good friend, Marcus Red Thunder, has also served as an advisor for the series and inspired the Cheyenne character of Henry Standing Bear, played by Lou Diamond Phillips.
The Longmire TV series, which debuted in 2012, had the highest series premiere ever for an original drama on A&E. Over 4.4 million viewers tuned in for its Season 2 finale on August 26th of this year and A&E had renewed the series for a Season 3. The following A&E-produced clip was the trailer for Season 1:
