COWBOYS IN THE CITY – WESTERN ART EXHIBITION IN NYC

An exhibition entitled “The American West in Bronze, 1850-1925” opens next month at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Organized by Thomas Smith of the Denver Art Museum, and Thayer Tolles of the Metropolitan, the exhibition will run in New York from December 18th to April 13th. The exhibition will then travel to Denver and China.

The show will feature 28 artists, 65 sculptures and 3 paintings. It is organized into four major sections: American Indians, Wildlife, Cowboys, and Settlers. The works on display will include that of artist-cowboy Charles Russell (1864 to 1926). As an interesting side-note, Russell worked on a Montana ranch with the famous Sundance Kid in 1895.
