Longmire is a contemporary Western mystery series set in present-day Wyoming. The series is based on the novel series by Craig Johnson and stars Robert Taylor as Sheriff Walt Longmire, the lead law enforcement officer in the fictional Wyoming county of Absaroka. Actors Lou Diamond Phillips, Katee Sackhoff, Bailey Chase, Cassidy Freeman and Adam Bartley round out the strong core ensemble cast.
The series skillfully examines a number of contemporary issues – such as fracking and animal rights activism – in stand-alone episodes while maintaining larger character-based narrative threads that run thru the show as a whole. It is not an exaggeration to say that there is literally nothing like it on television at the moment.
Longmire is A&E’s highest debuting series of all-time – its premiere episode on June 3rd, 2012 was watched by over 4.1 million viewers. Its Season 2 finale on August 26th, 2013 was viewed by over 4.4 million. This is the trailer for Season 3:
