The contemporary Western mystery series Longmire will soon debut its new season on Netflix. Picked up by the streaming service after being cancelled by A&E, the show will premiere its fourth season on Thursday, September 10th. The on-demand format of Netflix means that all 10 episodes of the new season will be immediately available for viewing.
Based on Craig Johnson’s novel series of the same name, the series is set in present-day Wyoming and centers upon Sheriff Walt Longmire, played by Robert Taylor. Taylor is supported by a talented ensemble cast that includes Lou Diamond Phillips, Katee Sackhoff, Bailey Chase, Adam Bartley, and Cassidy Freeman.
Longmire often blends an episodic local mystery within the larger framework of character story-lines. Further, within its first three seasons, the show has successfully explored a range of contemporary issues that have included fracking, Indigenous rights, and what it means to live a rural life in the 21st century. Here is a trailer for the new season on Netflix:
The first three seasons of Longmire are currently streaming on Netflix. Westernsreboot.com will provide commentary and reviews on Season 4 in the comings months.
