MUSEUM OF WESTERN ART TO SHOWCASE AMERICAN SCENE PAINTING

The American Museum of Western Art, as a session in its ongoing Artful Insight tours, will highlight the work of Thomas Hart Benton and John Steuart Curry on February 22nd. Benton from Missouri, and Curry from Kansas, helped to found an art style that came to be known as American Scene (or Regionalism) painting. As urban life and technological development expanded, this movement chose rural life as its focus and was very popular between 1930 and 1935, as the economic Depression struck America.9b8c54e787e27620c27e59f22ea28ff5

The American Museum of Western Art, located in downtown Denver, was founded in 2010 to house and publicly display art work representing the American West. The museum is located in the historic Navarre Building, built in 1880. With works ranging from the early 19th century to the contemporary era, this writer has toured the collection found it very impressive.
