THE HATEFUL EIGHT RELEASED ON DVD

The Quentin Tarantino-directed The Hateful Eight (2016) had its DVD and Blu-ray release today (March 29th) in North America. With a big screen debut this past December, the home version of Tarantino’s second Western includes behind-the-scenes and location featurettes.

Set in Wyoming in the post-US Civil War years, The Hateful Eight stars Kurt Russell as a bounty hunter attempting to bring a female fugitive (Jennifer Jason Leigh) to trial. Travelling by winter stagecoach, Russell and his prisoner encounter a fellow bounty hunter, played by Samuel L. Jackson, in need of transportation. That group then meets a wandering man (Walton Goggins) claiming to be the sheriff of the town where Russell is headed – he too is brought aboard.

A winter blizzard is set to envelop the group and so they take shelter at the next stagecoach station. With the owners of the station apparently gone on a family trip, four men unknown to Russell’s group are also there waiting out the storm. Suspicion and tension then follows:

The score for The Hateful Eight was composed by the legendary Ennio Morricone of Italian Western fame. In February, the 87 year-old Morricone won an Oscar for Best Original Score, his first.The Hateful Eight was filmed in the Telluride area of south-western Colorado.
