RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2 FROM ROCKSTAR COMING FALL 2017

Following an effective form of guerrilla marketing, in which two unannounced – and unexpected – images were tweeted by Rockstar Games over two days, the game-maker has revealed via its Twitter account that Red Dead Redemption 2 will launch in the Fall of 2017. A trailer previewing the game will be available this Thursday, October 20th at 11am EST. Here is the image from today’s announcement on Twitter:

With just two images over two days, Rockstar Games had fueled worldwide speculation about a follow-up to their hit Western video game, Red Dead Redemption (2010). On October 16th, the game-maker’s Twitter account tweeted a version of its Rockstar logo on a red background clearly derivative of the logo from the 2010 game.  Here is that image:

Then, one day later, Rockstar tweeted the image of seven figures silhouetted against a large orange sun, with the colors again referencing Red Dead Redemption. Here is the second image:

It appears that the game thus far has been targeted for Xbox One and Sony PS4 consoles. There is already an official website available at Red Dead Redemption 2. A statement on that site is as follows:

Developed by the creators of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption, Red Dead Redemption 2 is an epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland. The game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.

In the award-winning Red Dead Redemption (2010), players set out across a fading Old West as John Marston, a reformed outlaw forced by the US federal government to track down his former gang. There has been much speculation that the follow-up to the 2010 game will be a prequel, in which the earlier story of John Marston is experienced. This idea is based upon an apparently-leaked map for the follow-up – for an analysis of that map, visit the Westernsreboot.com post RDR2 Map Talk.
