LONGMIRE RENEWED FOR SIXTH & FINAL SEASON ON NETFLIX

Netflix has announced that it has renewed the contemporary Western mystery series Longmire for a sixth and final season. Netflix first began offering new seasons of Longmire via its streaming service in 2015, after the acclaimed series was cancelled by its original network, A&E. With the show’s fourth season (its first with Netflix), there was an immediate expansion of episode length, in some cases by up to 20 minutes.

Set in the fictional Wyoming county of Absaroka, the series stars Robert Taylor as Sheriff Walt Longmire. Lou Diamond Phillips plays Henry Standing Bear, Walt’s oldest friend, and Katee Sackhoff is Longmire’s deputy, Victoria “Vic” Moretti.

Longmire is based on the original novels by Craig Johnson, and is set in the present-day. Both its location and contemporary setting allow the show to explore a number of issues relevant to today. Such topics, which reach beyond the American West, include rural life in the 21st century, Indigenous rights, and environmentalism. Episodic mysteries are often arranged within the larger story-arcs of the main characters.

Filmed in New Mexico, the series is produced by The Shephard/Robin Company, in association with Warner Horizon Television. Season 6 will debut in 2017 in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
